Italian Energy Firm Gets Green Light for 14 MW Wind Farm

Feel Good

GreenGo Energy just received approval for its second wind farm in Italy's Foggia region this year, bringing the company closer to powering thousands of homes with clean energy. The fast-tracked permits show how Italy is speeding up its renewable energy future.

Italy just gave the green light to a new wind farm that will help power the country's shift away from fossil fuels.

GreenGo Energy received authorization for its Cantone wind farm project in the Foggia region of southern Italy. The 14 megawatt facility will generate enough clean electricity to power thousands of homes once completed.

What makes this approval special is the timing. Just months earlier, GreenGo received the go-ahead for another wind farm called La Motta in the same area. Together, these two projects bring 26 megawatts of new wind power to Foggia, one of the windiest regions in Southern Europe.

The back-to-back approvals signal that Italy is moving faster on renewable energy permits. For years, slow bureaucracy held back clean energy projects across Europe. Now regions like Puglia are showing it's possible to speed things up without cutting corners.

Alberto Piva, GreenGo's Business Development Director, says the company has already secured permits for five renewable projects in 2025 across three Italian regions. That includes solar farms, wind facilities, and agrivoltaic projects that combine farming with energy production.

The Ripple Effect

GreenGo's success in Puglia is creating momentum across southern Italy. The company now has over 733 megawatts of renewable energy projects in development throughout the region, with Foggia accounting for 245 megawatts of that total.

The region's geography makes it perfect for wind power. Strong, consistent winds sweep across the landscape, making it one of the most productive areas for wind energy in Europe. By clustering projects in this ideal location, GreenGo can generate more clean power with less infrastructure.

The company isn't stopping there. It has a pipeline of more than 2 gigawatts of renewable projects spread across 12 Italian regions. About 80 percent of these are proprietary projects, meaning GreenGo controls them from development through operation.

This model helps ensure projects actually get built rather than stalling in planning stages. As Europe races to meet climate goals, companies that can move quickly from permits to actual construction will play a crucial role in the energy transition.

Italy still gets most of its electricity from natural gas, but wind and solar are growing fast. Every new megawatt of renewable capacity brings the country closer to energy independence and cleaner air for its citizens.
