Italian Wrestler Moves to US Alone, Lives His Dream
Cristiano Argento left everything behind in Italy without speaking English to chase his wrestling dream in America. Eight years later, he's competing for one of the country's top promotions and says the "land of opportunity" lived up to its promise.
When Cristiano Argento told his parents he wanted to move halfway around the world to become a professional wrestler, they thought he'd lost his mind.
The 35,000-person Italian town of Osimo seems worlds away from American wrestling rings. But Argento had wrestled across Europe in Germany, Sweden, France, and Denmark, and he knew one truth: to make it as a pro wrestler, he needed to get to the United States.
His first stop was Canada in the early 2010s, training with wrestling legend Lance Storm. Argento arrived with barely any English and relied on his friend Stefano to translate everything. "I probably missed 50% of the knowledge that Lance Storm was giving to us because I was unable to understand," he admitted.
Instead of giving up, Argento went back to Italy and studied English properly. He secured his first work visa to Houston, Texas, where he trained with Booker T at Reality of Wrestling and made his US debut.
In 2017, he moved to Pittsburgh on a new work visa. Since then, his career has steadily climbed until landing at the National Wrestling Alliance, one of the biggest promotions in the country.

His family's initial shock slowly turned to pride, though they worried about their son being six time zones away with no support system. "If you get sick, if you have a problem, anything, and they're not being able to be here next to me," Argento recalled their fears. The distance meant seeing his family maybe once a year if he was lucky.
Why This Inspires
Argento draws motivation from actors and dreamers who came to America with nothing but passion. "I was inspired by people who came to the U.S. and made it big," he says. "They didn't know English, with no money, no support system. I have to go right there to make it happen."
The "land of opportunity" phrase gets thrown around constantly, but for Argento, it proved true. "That's how they sell it to us and this is what it is," he explains. "Anything I tried to do so far I was able to reach a lot more than if I wasn't here."
He's not where he wants to be yet, but he sees endless possibilities in America, not just in wrestling but in any field where passion meets persistence.
Outside the NWA, Argento performs for International Wrestling Cartel, Enjoy Wrestling, and Exodus Pro Wrestling, building a career one match at a time.
For anyone doubting whether to chase a dream that seems impossibly far away, Argento's message is simple: we have one life, and sometimes the scariest path is the right one.
