Jackson Recovery Center Doubles Addiction Support Capacity

A Jackson nonprofit just started building something that will change hundreds of lives: a recovery center twice the size of what they have now.

Gateway Rescue Mission broke ground this week on a major expansion of its New Life Program, which helps men recover from addiction. The 24,000-square-foot renovation will double how many people the organization can serve at its South Gallatin Street campus.

Executive Director Rex Baker joined Jackson Mayor John Horhn and community members to celebrate the groundbreaking. "This new building will allow us to better serve our community by helping those seeking freedom from addiction," Baker said. "We're grateful to break ground on a project that will change so many more lives here in Jackson."

The expansion includes new dormitories where men in recovery will live, plus offices, a classroom, and a larger chapel and event center. These spaces will give participants more room to heal, learn new skills, and build the foundation for a life beyond addiction.

Gateway Rescue Mission has been serving Jackson for 78 years through hot meals, emergency shelter, and recovery programs. This expansion represents the organization's biggest investment yet in long-term recovery support.

The Ripple Effect

When addiction recovery programs expand, entire communities benefit. Men who complete programs like Gateway's New Life Program often reunite with their families, return to work, and become mentors to others struggling with the same challenges.

The project is part of Gateway's "Restore Life to Jackson" campaign. That name captures what addiction recovery really does: it restores fathers to their children, workers to their jobs, and hope to families who thought they'd lost someone forever.

Doubling capacity means twice as many men will get the chance to rebuild their lives each year. It means twice as many families could welcome someone home. It means twice as many second chances in a community that's choosing to invest in recovery instead of giving up on people.

Construction is now underway, and when it's finished, Jackson will have something powerful: proof that communities can expand hope the same way they expand buildings.
