Jaipur Man Turns Cow Dung Into $120K Paper Business

When Bhim Raj Sharma announced he'd make paper from cow dung, even his closest friends refused to lend him money.

The Jaipur resident heard about elephant dung paper in 2014 and wondered why nobody was doing the same with cow waste. His family thought he'd lost his mind. But Sharma believed in the idea so deeply that he took the Rs 30 lakh he'd saved for his daughter's wedding and invested it in his dream.

In 2017, Sharma launched Gaukriti and patented his cow dung paper process. The first sheet came out uneven and crumbly, and people mocked his efforts openly.

He didn't give up. Instead, Sharma spent six months researching and experimenting with different combinations of cow dung, cow urine, and cotton waste until he perfected a high-quality paper.

The experimentation paid off. Today, Sharma's company generates over Rs 1 crore in annual revenue and ships more than 3,000 sheets of eco-friendly paper every single day.

His client list spans India's major cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. What started as a ridiculed idea has grown into a thriving business that's reshaping how India thinks about sustainable paper production.

Sharma's innovation does more than just turn a profit. Every sheet of cow dung paper he produces means less chemical-heavy traditional paper entering the market and less agricultural waste polluting the environment.
