Japan and Singapore Launch MedTech Program for Asia Startups
A new partnership between Japan's Murata Electronics and Singapore's Tribe is inviting healthcare startups across Southeast Asia and India to solve the region's biggest medical challenges. Winners get funding, mentorship, and the chance to turn their ideas into real products.
Healthcare innovation is coming to Southeast Asia in a big way, thanks to a new program that pairs cutting-edge technology with local problem solvers.
Japan's Murata Electronics and Singapore-based Tribe just launched KUMIHIMO Tech Camp Singapore 2026, an open innovation program connecting MedTech startups across ASEAN and India with the resources they need to build game-changing healthcare solutions. The focus is on tackling three critical areas: preventing and detecting both chronic and infectious diseases, monitoring health risks from pollution and climate change, and bringing affordable medical screening to rural communities far from big cities.
Selected startups won't just get a pat on the back. They'll receive hands-on access to Murata's advanced hardware platforms and core technologies, plus direct mentorship from Murata engineers and MedTech experts who've built products that actually work in the real world.
The program runs from September through November 2026, ending with a Demo Day on November 26 in Singapore. One winning team takes home a $7,800 cash prize, but the real prize might be what comes next: high-potential teams can continue working with Murata on proof-of-concept projects and full product development.

DM Venkatesan from Murata Electronics Singapore explained why this matters. Startups that combine hardware innovation with deep understanding of local healthcare challenges are uniquely positioned to solve problems that off-the-shelf technology simply wasn't designed to handle.
Yi Ming Ng, Co-Founder of Tribe Accelerator, promised selected teams will tap into Tribe's extensive regional networks. That means connections with strategists, subject matter experts, and investors who've successfully launched and funded MedTech products across Southeast Asia and India.
Applications open mid-June 2026 and close July 31, 2026. The top 10 teams get selected by mid-August and begin the development phase in September.
The Ripple Effect
This program addresses a crucial gap in global healthcare. Many regions in Southeast Asia and India face unique medical challenges that Western-designed technology doesn't address. By empowering local innovators with world-class resources, KUMIHIMO could spark solutions that help millions of people access better healthcare, especially in underserved communities where every breakthrough counts.
When technology meets local knowledge, healthcare innovation can finally reach the people who need it most.
