Japan's Drinkable Energy Cards Hold 18-Month Shelf Life
A Japanese company has created energy drinks inside collectible cards that snap open with one hand. The Street Fighter-themed cards pack a full energy boost into just 12 milliliters.
Imagine keeping an energy drink in your wallet next to your credit cards, ready to use whenever you need a boost.
Osaka-based snack maker UHA Mikakuto just made that possible with Energy Arts, a caffeine-free energy drink that comes sealed inside a collectible card. Instead of cracking open a can, you simply fold the card backward to snap open the center seam and drink the liquid inside.
The company developed the unusual container with Kindai University's pharmaceutical department. Each card holds just 12 milliliters of liquid but delivers 1,000 milligrams each of amino acids arginine and citrulline. That's the same energy boost as a full-size canned drink, according to the creators.
The compact design offers some surprising practical benefits. You can open and drink from the card using just one hand, making it perfect for students cramming for exams or professionals stuck in long meetings. There's almost no trash to dispose of afterward, and the smaller liquid volume means fewer bathroom breaks when you're trying to focus.

UHA Mikakuto partnered with video game publisher Capcom to launch 24 different cards featuring Street Fighter 6 character artwork. The gaming connection makes sense since e-sports competitors often need quick energy boosts without leaving their stations.
Why This Inspires
This invention shows how rethinking everyday products can solve real problems. The card format isn't just clever marketing. It addresses genuine pain points: bulky containers, two-handed opening mechanisms, and the hassle of disposing of cans or bottles.
The 18-month shelf life means you really could stash one in your bag or desk drawer for emergencies. That kind of portability transforms energy drinks from something you plan to buy into something you can always have ready.
The Street Fighter Energy Arts cards are available in packs of 10 for 3,213 yen through Japanese crowdfunding site Makuake until May 10. Just remember to keep them away from any rare trading cards you don't want accidentally bent.
Sometimes the most innovative solutions come from asking a simple question: does it really need to be in a can?
