Jordan Stolz Wins Gold, Sets Olympic Record in 1,000 Meters

At just 21 years old, Jordan Stolz just proved that patience and persistence pay off in the most spectacular way.

The American speedskater captured gold in the men's 1,000-meter race Wednesday at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, setting a new Olympic record with a time of 1:06.28. He edged out Dutch star Jenning de Boo, who finished second at 1:06.78, while China's Zhongyan Ning took bronze.

Four years ago, a teenage Stolz competed at his first Olympics in Beijing at age 17. He didn't come close to the podium then, but the Wisconsin native kept training and pushing himself.

Since 2022, Stolz has dominated the World Single Distance Championships, collecting six gold medals. He already holds the world record for the 1,000 meters, which he set in Salt Lake City in 2024 with a time of 1:05.37.

Wednesday's win marks just the beginning of what could be an incredible run in Milan. Stolz will compete in three more events at these Games: the men's 500-meter, 1,500-meter, and mass start races.
