Jorge Araneta Wins Lifetime Award for Manila Urban Vision

Jorge L. Araneta didn't just build shopping malls and stadiums. He created a city within a city that millions of Filipinos now call part of their daily lives.

The chairman and CEO of Araneta Group recently received the Life Achievement Award at the 14th PropertyGuru Philippines Property Awards on August 20. The recognition honors his extraordinary contributions to Philippine real estate and his visionary leadership in developing Araneta City, one of Metro Manila's most iconic urban destinations.

For decades, Araneta City in Cubao has served as more than a business district. Generations of Filipinos have shopped at its malls, cheered at concerts and games, commuted through its transit hubs, and built memories in its public spaces.

What made Araneta's approach revolutionary was his foresight. He pioneered the integration of entertainment and retail decades ago, creating mixed-use spaces that are now standard practice in urban development.

Even more forward-thinking, he incorporated mass transit into the development before the MRT and LRT systems existed. This integration of transportation, retail, entertainment, hospitality, offices, and residential spaces transformed how Filipinos experience urban life.

Rowell Recinto, senior management consultant of Araneta City, accepted the award on Araneta's behalf. He emphasized that the concepts Araneta introduced are now planning essentials in all major developments across the Philippines.

The PropertyGuru award joins an impressive collection of honors. Just days earlier, Araneta received the 2026 Most Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of the Philippines Alumni Association.

His previous recognitions include the UP College of Business Administration's Most Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2005, the Philippine Retailers Association's "Pioneer of Retail Entertainment" recognition in 2018, and the Upsilon Noble and Outstanding Award in 2020.
