K9 Gable Sniffs Out 525 Pounds of Cocaine in Nebraska

A police dog's incredible sense of smell just led to one of Nebraska's biggest drug busts of the year, proving once again why these four-legged officers are invaluable partners in keeping communities safe.

K9 Gable, a Nebraska State Patrol detection dog, alerted troopers to something suspicious during a routine traffic stop on Interstate 80 Wednesday morning. The trooper had initially pulled over the vehicle for following too closely behind a semi-truck.

When Gable signaled the presence of drugs, troopers searched the vehicle and discovered an astounding 525 pounds of suspected cocaine hidden inside. They also found 9.3 grams of suspected heroin.

The driver, 23-year-old Gurarppan Gill from Yuba City, California, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver. He's now in custody at Seward County Jail.

"Amazing work today by Troopers and K9 Gable," the Nebraska State Patrol posted on social media, adding simply, "The nose knows." The pride in their post was clear, celebrating not just the bust but the partnership between handler and dog that made it possible.
