Kaduna Invests $20M to End 30-Year Erosion Crisis

For more than 30 years, residents of Rigasa and neighboring communities in Kaduna State, Nigeria, watched helplessly as gully erosion swallowed their land, destroyed homes, and claimed lives. That nightmare is finally ending.

Governor Uba Sani just announced a N34 billion ($20 million) environmental restoration project that will tackle the erosion crisis head-on. After inspecting the devastated areas himself, the governor committed to bringing lasting solutions to communities that have suffered for far too long.

The ambitious project will cover a 17-kilometer stretch across two local government areas, protecting predominantly urban-poor settlements that drive much of Kaduna State's economy. Work will begin within two weeks, with completion expected in 18 months.

More than 1,200 households will need temporary relocation during construction, but the government has set aside over N2 billion ($1.2 million) specifically for compensation and resettlement support. No family will be left behind in this transformation.
