Karnataka and Chile Partner on Clean Energy Innovation

Karnataka's IT Minister Priyank Kharge welcomed Chile's Foreign Minister Francisco Perez Mackenna to Bengaluru this week to formalize a collaboration that goes far beyond typical trade agreements. The meeting built on a Letter of Intent signed during Bengaluru's Tech Summit, establishing Karnataka and Chile as partners in the Global Innovation Alliance. Both regions see themselves as innovation hubs ready to tackle the world's biggest challenges through technology and entrepreneurship.

Green hydrogen topped the agenda as both sides explored ways to advance renewable energy solutions. Karnataka brings its world-class talent pipeline in AI, biotech, and aerospace, while Chile offers expertise in sustainable industrial innovation and a strategic position as Latin America's gateway.

Minister Kharge emphasized moving beyond paperwork to real action. "We must move beyond agreements on paper to actionable collaboration," he said, proposing startup exchanges, joint R&D centers, and innovation incubators that benefit both regions.

Chile's interest reflects its own transformation toward a knowledge-driven economy. Minister Mackenna highlighted his country's commitment to building innovation partnerships that enable technology exchange and talent collaboration, particularly in clean energy and digital technologies.
