Kazakhstan City Becomes Hub for Korean AI and Smart Tech

Kazakhstan is building a city of the future, and South Korea is helping make it happen.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and South Korean Prime Minister Han Seong-sook recently reviewed ambitious plans for Alatau City, a smart city project that's becoming a testing ground for next-generation technology. The new urban center will showcase innovations that could reshape how we think about city living.

The partnership brings together some of South Korea's leading tech organizations. The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation, and Korea Airports Corporation are collaborating on projects ranging from digital neighborhoods to flying transportation.

One standout feature is the urban air mobility system. Alatau City will manage drones and air taxis through specialized technology, moving closer to the sci-fi vision of skyborne commutes that once seemed decades away.

The city is designed around four key pillars: modern infrastructure, attractive investment opportunities, digital innovation, and new transportation options. Rather than building a traditional city and upgrading it later, planners are embedding smart technology from day one.

Korean partners are developing K-Smart Town, a district showcasing integrated digital systems. Educational and research facilities will also call Alatau home, creating a community where innovation happens in real time.

This collaboration shows what's possible when nations pool their expertise. Kazakhstan gains access to South Korea's technological leadership, while Korean companies find a real-world laboratory for testing urban innovations at scale.
