Kelsey Mitchell Breaks WNBA Scoring Record with 1,034 Points

Kelsey Mitchell walked into the Indiana Fever locker room Friday night and was met with a confetti explosion. Her first thought? The celebration must be for her coach.

Then her teammates rushed toward her, and it clicked. The 33 points she'd just scored against the Toronto Tempo had pushed her past A'ja Wilson's 2024 record of 1,021 points in a single season.

Mitchell drilled a third-quarter three-pointer to officially claim the WNBA's single-season scoring crown. She finished the game shooting an impressive 12-for-17, including 7-for-11 from beyond the arc.

The achievement caps off what might be the most underappreciated season in recent WNBA history. Mitchell has now scored 20 or more points in 25 consecutive games, another league record.

"I don't think people realize what she's done this year and how insane it's been," teammate Caitlin Clark said after the game. "It's probably not talked about enough, especially in my opinion."

The numbers back up Clark's surprise. Mitchell is averaging 25 points per game this season, second only to Wilson's 26.1 average.

The victory also pushed Indiana to 27-14 with three games left in the regular season. The Fever are now battling for home-court advantage in the playoffs alongside Las Vegas and Atlanta.

Clark contributed her own stellar performance, scoring 28 points and dishing out 14 assists in her first game since winning gold at the FIBA World Cup. She's now recorded 25-plus points and 10-plus assists in a single game more times this season than any player has in their entire career.
