Kentucky Town Hosts Free Recovery Story Event March 27

When people in recovery share their stories out loud, something powerful happens. Community Partners for Recovery is banking on that power with a free event designed to help an entire Kentucky town understand addiction differently.

"Voices of Recovery" takes place March 27 at Barren County High School in Glasgow. The evening is open to everyone, not just those personally touched by addiction.

Executive Director Libby Short believes real stories beat statistics every time. "What better way to educate people than hearing real-life stories from people who have lived it and have come out on the other side," she said.

The evening features three speakers who will share their personal journeys through addiction and into recovery. Beverly Vance Aikins, mother of Vice President JD Vance, will deliver the keynote address.

Bambi Adams from Lake Cumberland Recovery in Mount Vernon will also speak. Local resident Starr Whitlow rounds out the lineup, planning to share a deeply personal story of trauma, addiction, and long-term recovery.

Short emphasized why breaking down stigma matters so much. "When somebody gets into the recovery phase, a lot of times they have lost everything," she explained.

The Ripple Effect

This event reaches beyond people currently struggling with addiction. By opening the auditorium doors to neighbors, coworkers, and friends, Community Partners for Recovery is betting that understanding grows when communities listen together.

Local and regional organizations will staff information booths throughout the evening. These tables will connect attendees with treatment options, counseling services, and support resources for themselves or loved ones.

The organizers are sweetening the deal with giveaways and door prizes, but the real prize is connection. When one person shares their recovery story, it gives hope to someone still fighting and compassion to someone who's never understood the battle.

Every speaker at this event has walked through fire and come out breathing. Now they're inviting an entire community to witness what's possible when people don't give up.
