Pennsylvania Hosts Recovery Fair for Thousands Seeking Help

Thousands of Pennsylvanians gathered on the Capitol grounds in September for a powerful message: recovery from addiction is real, and no one has to face it alone.

The Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs hosted a Wellness and Resource Fair during National Recovery Month. The event brought together people in recovery, families, treatment providers, and state legislators to celebrate progress and share resources that help people heal.

Dr. Latika Davis-Jones, DDAP Secretary, emphasized what makes recovery stick. "Recovery is strengthened by recovery capital: the stable housing, meaningful work, education, caring relationships, and community connections that make a healthier life possible," she said.

The fair featured 70 recovery organizations offering support and information. Attendees could participate in wellness activities and hear from people who've walked the recovery path themselves.

Eldon Morey, a veteran in long-term recovery, shared his journey from substance use disorder to helping others find hope. "I encourage anyone who's beginning their recovery journey to stay on their path because there is life beyond the disease of addiction," Morey told the crowd.

His story reflects a larger reality: millions of Americans are in recovery right now, including thousands across Pennsylvania.

The Ripple Effect

Pennsylvania has built an expanding network of support that's changing lives across the state. The Commonwealth now licenses 459 recovery houses where people can find safe, supportive places to rebuild their lives.

Nine regional recovery hubs funded by DDAP now serve communities statewide. These hubs create coordinated networks of services tailored to each person's needs, focusing on overall health, wellness, and quality of life.

The hubs represent a shift toward recovery-oriented care. Instead of just treating addiction, they help people build entire lives worth protecting: jobs, education, relationships, and community connections.

Problem gambling recovery resources were also featured at the fair. Pennsylvania recognizes that addiction takes many forms, and recovery support should meet people wherever they are.

All licensed recovery houses are listed on DDAP's website, making it easier for Pennsylvanians to find help in their area. The state continues to expand these resources as demand grows.

Every recovery story shared at the fair reminded attendees that healing is possible with the right support, and that rebuilt lives can inspire countless others to begin their own journeys.
