Kia Trucks Speed Up River Cleanup in Guatemala

Guatemalan rivers are getting a powerful boost in the fight against ocean plastic, thanks to two new trucks that are transforming cleanup operations.

Kia donated two K2700 trucks to The Ocean Cleanup, its global partner working to stop plastic pollution before it reaches the ocean. The trucks are already making waves in Guatemala, where two major rivers carry an estimated 20,000 tons of trash into the Caribbean Sea each year.

The Motagua River and Las Vacas River have become critical battlegrounds in the war on plastic waste. Their pollution doesn't just harm local ecosystems. It damages marine life and coastal communities across multiple countries.

The Ocean Cleanup deployed advanced floating systems called Interceptors at key spots along both rivers. These systems use barriers to catch waste flowing downstream and channel it to collection points where workers can remove it.
