Kidnapped Nigerian Doctor Thanks Community After Release

A Nigerian doctor is counting his blessings and thanking countless supporters after surviving a traumatic kidnapping that ended in heartbreak and hope.

Dr. Abu Ibrahim left the hospital Monday and is now recovering at home in Edo State after he and his brother were abducted on January 2nd. While Ibrahim survived the month-long ordeal, his brother was killed by the kidnappers despite the family paying a 50 million Naira ransom.

In a heartfelt statement released Wednesday, Ibrahim expressed deep gratitude to everyone who supported his family during what he called their "darkest time." Friends, acquaintances, and complete strangers came together with financial contributions, prayers, and emotional support that made all the difference.

Ambassador Chris Ighodalo connected the family with the Rotary Club, while Engineer Ismael Saliu reached out to the 1987 Engineering class from the University of Lagos. Local groups including the Iyetse sons and daughters, Etsako Progressive Union, and Auchi vigilantes all stepped up.

Ibrahim's father, Tahir Momoh, specifically thanked the Edo State Commissioner for Land and Housing, numerous community organizations, and security forces including police, DSS, army personnel, and local hunters who worked tirelessly on the case. He also praised media coverage that kept the story visible throughout the ordeal.

The brothers were kidnapped while returning home from work. Ibrahim sustained a gunshot wound during his eventual release but is now on the mend.
