Lagos Twins Both Win Top Honors at Same University

Twin brothers Taiwo and Kehinde Ajitokewu just made history at Lagos State University, both earning the highest academic honors in their programs despite growing up in one of Lagos Island's most challenging neighborhoods. Among more than 20,000 graduates, Taiwo earned First Class honors in Biology Education while Kehinde became the Best Graduating Student in Computer Science Education.

The brothers grew up in Isale Eko, a historic but congested community on Lagos Island that many considered unlikely to produce academic champions. They attended the same high school, chose the same university department, and supported each other through every challenge.

Their excellence extended far beyond grades. Together, the twins won two national scholarships, more than four local scholarships, and earned three international award recognitions during their undergraduate years.

Both brothers were selected as Millennium Fellows for 2025, a prestigious United Nations leadership program. More than 60,000 young people from 170 countries applied, but only 4,500 were chosen worldwide.

Taiwo worked on a sustainability project focused on waste management, promoting composting and recycling practices. Kehinde developed a digital literacy initiative aimed at narrowing the technology gap in underserved communities.

The twins also served as campus ambassadors and held multiple leadership positions throughout their academic journey. They say their success came from determination and faith rather than natural talent alone.

Why This Inspires

The Ajitokewu brothers could have accepted the limitations others placed on them because of where they came from. Instead, they chose to define themselves by their values, discipline, and aspirations.

Their message to young people facing similar challenges is clear and powerful. "Never allow your environment to place a limit on your potential," Kehinde said in a LinkedIn post celebrating their achievements.

The twins credit their parents, teachers, mentors, and friends who supported them throughout university. They see their success not as a personal victory alone, but as proof that exceptional achievements can emerge from any background.
