Kim Kardashian agreed to waive $167,000 in legal fees owed by Ivan Cantu, a Texas man who sued her after she accidentally posted his photo instead of a death row inmate with the same name. She had been advocating for the prisoner's release when the mix-up happened.

Cantu sued Kardashian for damages, claiming the mistaken post harmed him. Kardashian immediately deleted the post after discovering the error and denied all wrongdoing in court.

The court sided with Kardashian completely, dismissing all of Cantu's claims and ordering him to pay her legal fees. Despite winning, she chose a different path forward.

When Cantu argued that paying the six-figure sum would financially devastate him, Kardashian listened. The judge initially rejected his plea, noting that Kardashian was a billionaire who didn't need the money, but that didn't change the legal obligation.

Cantu filed an appeal, but before it moved forward, Kardashian made her decision. Her legal team reached out to settle the matter differently.

"This is a lawsuit that should never have been filed," her representative told TMZ. "Kim agreed to waive those fees and so [Ivan] has dismissed his case with prejudice."

The dismissal with prejudice means Cantu cannot refile the lawsuit. In exchange, he walks away without owing anything to one of the world's wealthiest celebrities.

This resolution shows that winning in court doesn't always mean collecting every dollar owed. Kardashian could have pursued the full amount, but instead recognized that the principle had been established and the case was over.
