King Charles has made a personal donation to help victims of Nepal's catastrophic floods, which have claimed more than 1,300 lives and left 5,000 people missing, including over 30 British nationals.

The disaster struck nearly two weeks ago when a glacier collapsed near the Nepal-Tibet border, triggering devastating flash floods. Entire homes now lie buried under mud deposits reaching up to 20 meters high.

The King and Queen said they were "heartbroken" by the tragedy in a message of condolence, extending their "most profound sympathy" to all those affected. The royal donation went directly to the British Red Cross's disaster fund.

Nepal Red Cross volunteers were among the first responders and continue working despite unimaginable personal losses. Many have lost their own homes and family members in the flooding.

"They are in a state of shock," said Rajesh Srivastava, the British Red Cross's regional representative for South and East Asia. "They have lost their homes and, in some cases, their nearest and dearest. But despite these challenges, they are still working tirelessly."

The scale of destruction remains difficult to assess as rescue teams battle extreme weather and treacherous conditions. Houses are completely submerged, with some areas covered by mud taller than a five-story building.

The British Red Cross has been coordinating with its Nepali counterpart on emergency relief, healthcare, water and sanitation efforts, and longer-term recovery programs. Search and rescue operations continue as teams work to reach the thousands still unaccounted for.

Nepal observed a national day of mourning on Monday, with flags lowered at government buildings across the country. Families performed memorial rituals for loved ones lost in the disaster.
