LA Hospital Becomes 80-Room Art Gallery of Human Emotion

Hospitals are usually places people want to leave. But Los Angeles' former St. Vincent Medical Center is now somewhere people are lining up to enter.

The abandoned hospital has been transformed into the "Hospital of Emotions," an immersive art exhibition featuring 80 installations across four floors. Where doctors once treated bodies, artists are now healing spirits through color, memory, and shared human experience.

Seventy artists converted former emergency rooms, patient wards, and treatment spaces into interactive displays exploring everything from grief to joy. Clinical white walls now burst with flowers, projections dance across old equipment, and visitors are invited to reflect on their own memories and emotions as they wander through rooms dedicated to different feelings.

Each installation occupies what was once a functional medical space. The transformation feels especially poignant given the building's history of healing. Artists drew inspiration from both personal experiences and collective moments of vulnerability.
