LA Triplets Weigh 19 Pounds, Nearly Break World Record
A South Los Angeles couple welcomed three healthy baby boys weighing a combined 19.3 pounds, coming within ounces of a world record. The triplets arrived on their father's birthday, adding three more children under five to their growing family.
Three baby boys made quite the entrance into the world, tipping the scales at a combined 19.3 pounds and nearly setting a world record in the process.
Nyla Craft and Marco Bernal of South Los Angeles welcomed triplets Elio, Elias and Enzo on August 18. Each baby weighed over six pounds, a remarkable feat for multiples who are typically born smaller than single babies.
The total weight fell just a few ounces short of the world record for combined triplet birth weight. Two of the boys are identical twins, making the arrival even more special for the family.
"When I heard the first baby come out, I cried because I was just, 'oh my gosh, he's okay,' then the second one then the third one," Craft said. "I heard them all crying at once, and I was like, 'oh thank God, they are good.'"
The timing couldn't have been sweeter. All three babies arrived on Bernal's birthday, giving dad the ultimate birthday gift.

The triplets join two older siblings at home, bringing the family total to five children under the age of five. While that might sound overwhelming, the parents are embracing the chaos with open arms.
Sunny's Take
Dr. Rohit Passi, chief of neonatology at Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center, visited the family at home after their hospital stay. His joy was evident as he watched the family of seven settling into their new normal.
"We're just so happy, this is the best part, seeing them out and sitting with the family and this is the reason we do what we do," Passi said.
The healthy weights of all three babies reflect excellent prenatal care and a successful delivery. For triplets, reaching over six pounds each is exceptional and suggests strong starts for all three boys.
The image of Bernal sitting with a baby resting on each arm while Craft holds the third captures the beautiful reality of their expanded family.
Five kids under five might seem daunting, but this South LA family is proof that love multiplies to meet the need.
