Lagos Students Learn Bead Making for Youth Skills Day

When students at two Lagos primary schools arrived at class on World Youth Skills Day, they didn't open textbooks. Instead, they picked up colorful beads and learned to create jewelry with their own hands.

The Lagos Ikoyi Elite Lions Club organized the special training program for pupils at Premier Day Nursery and Primary School and Raufu Williams Primary School in Surulere. The event brought together young learners for a hands-on introduction to bead making and entrepreneurship.

Lion Soledotun Abdulkarim-Yusuf, president of the Lagos Ikoyi Elite Lions Club, reminded students that practical skills matter just as much as classroom learning. She told them that every successful entrepreneur starts by mastering a skill.

"Education is not only about reading books," she explained to the eager students. "It is also about learning practical skills that solve problems and create opportunities."

Professional bead maker Olusola Anuoluwapo Elizabeth led the training session, guiding students through each step of the creative process. She taught them how to select different types of beads and accessories, then helped them design and craft their own bracelets, anklets, and necklaces.

The program focused on more than just making jewelry. Students practiced patience, concentration, and color coordination while discovering the satisfaction of creating something beautiful with their hands.

This initiative shows what happens when communities invest in children's futures beyond traditional academics. By introducing vocational skills early, the Lions Club is planting seeds that could grow into future businesses and careers.
