Lake Placid Cuts Energy Bills With $5,000 Insulation Rebates
Lake Placid residents can now slash their heating and cooling costs with rebates covering up to 75% of insulation upgrades, with qualifying low-income families getting 100% coverage. The program offers up to $5,000 per household to make homes more comfortable while keeping money in residents' pockets.
High winter energy bills are about to become much less painful for families in Lake Placid, New York.
The North Country Clean Energy Hub just launched a rebate program that covers most of the cost when homeowners upgrade their insulation and weatherproofing. Most residents can get back 75% of what they spend, up to $5,000 per year.
The program targets the biggest energy wasters in older homes. Eligible upgrades include attic insulation, exterior wall insulation, air sealing, weatherstripping, and basement improvements that can dramatically cut heating and cooling expenses.
"As a resident of Lake Placid, I also experienced high energy bills this past winter," said Bella Abbadessa, program coordinator with the Adirondack North Country Association. She's personally invested in helping her neighbors reduce the financial burden of staying warm.
Low-income families get even better support. Qualifying residents receive 100% coverage of installation costs, and the program pays contractors directly so families don't need to come up with money upfront.

The process works simply. Homeowners contact a contractor to assess their home's needs, submit a rebate form to the Independent Energy Efficiency Program for pre-approval, and then complete the work. After finishing the upgrades, they submit proof of payment and receive their rebate check.
Lake Placid Municipal Electric superintendent Kimball Daby emphasized that the district wants to empower residents with straightforward energy solutions. His team stands ready to guide anyone through the paperwork if questions arise.
The Ripple Effect
When one home gets better insulation, the whole community benefits. Lower energy demand means less strain on the local power grid during peak winter months. Families keeping more money in their wallets means more spending at local businesses instead of sending checks to utility companies.
The program also extends beyond Lake Placid to municipal electric customers in Tupper Lake and Plattsburgh, creating a regional network of energy-efficient homes. The North Country Clean Energy Hub offers free assistance connecting residents with qualified contractors who can assess exactly what each home needs.
Additional rebates remain available for heat pumps, energy-efficient appliances, and even battery-powered lawn equipment, giving residents multiple pathways to reduce both costs and environmental impact.
Families can now transform their homes into comfortable, affordable spaces while building a more resilient community together.
