Lawton Volunteers Clean Numu Creek This Saturday

Lawton, Oklahoma is proving that community cleanup doesn't have to be complicated or time-consuming.

The City of Lawton Stormwater Division is hosting Stream Clean Saturday on August 29 from 10 a.m. to noon at Numu Creek, located south of Cache Road between two local restaurants. Volunteers will gather at the southeast corner of the Golden Corral parking lot to tackle trash and debris along the waterway.

The city is making participation as easy as possible. They're providing gloves, supplies, water, snacks, and even bug spray for everyone who shows up. All volunteers need to bring are closed-toed shoes and clothes that can get dirty or wet.

The cleanup area includes slopes, brush, and shallow water, but organizers emphasize that volunteers can stay on the bank if they prefer not to enter the creek. This flexibility means almost anyone can participate regardless of comfort level with water.

If the team finishes early, there's a bonus opportunity to clean an empty lot on Erwin Lane, north of Walmart. It's a chance to double the impact in a single morning.
