Lawyer Builds Complete Bar Centre, Gifts It to Colleagues
A senior lawyer in Nigeria just gave his fellow attorneys an entire professional building, complete with library, conference halls, and workspace. The donation honors decades of legal service and creates a lasting home for justice in Ondo State.
Chief Tayo Oyetibo didn't just write a check for his colleagues. He built them a complete professional centre and handed over the keys.
The senior advocate surprised the Nigerian Bar Association's Ondo Branch last Friday with a fully equipped facility in Ondo City. The building includes a conference hall, library, cafeteria, lawyers' lounge, and document processing rooms.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa attended the unveiling and praised the gesture as more than just bricks and mortar. He called it a monument to professional excellence and a model for young lawyers entering the field.
The idea started simply enough. In June 2025, local bar association leaders visited Oyetibo's office to discuss challenges facing lawyers in their branch. Rather than offering advice, Oyetibo decided to build them a solution.
"Lawyers remain custodians of justice and defenders of the rule of law," Oyetibo said at the inauguration. He sees investing in lawyers' welfare as investing in society itself.

The facility addresses a practical need that lawyers in Ondo have faced for years. Many struggled without a dedicated space for meetings, mentorship, or professional development. Now they have a permanent home.
The Ripple Effect
This donation creates benefits that extend far beyond the legal community. When lawyers have better resources and spaces to collaborate, they serve their clients more effectively. Justice becomes more accessible.
The library alone represents a significant win. Supreme Court Justice Moronkeji Ogunwumiju, for whom the library was named, donated 21 years of Nigerian Weekly Law Reports to stock the shelves. Young lawyers now have free access to legal precedents that would otherwise cost thousands.
Chief Wole Olanipekun, another senior advocate who chaired the event, urged younger lawyers to follow Oyetibo's example of service. The centre becomes a teaching tool itself, showing what's possible when professionals invest in their communities.
NBA Ondo Branch Chairman Henry Akingbesote confirmed the building fulfills a dream lawyers in the region have held for years. He called it a symbol of unity and commitment to professional growth.
The generosity arrives at a crucial time for Nigeria's legal system, which faces pressure to modernize and improve access to justice across the country.
One gift is creating opportunities for thousands of current and future lawyers to serve their communities better.
