Liberia Doctor Calls for Greater Investment in Nurses

In Buchanan, Liberia, a powerful message rang out on International Nurses Day: the country's healthcare future depends on empowering its nurses now.

Dr. Ibrahim Ajami, an internist at ArcelorMittal Liberia, delivered a keynote address calling for meaningful investment in the nursing workforce. Speaking to nurses gathered from across Grand Bassa County, he described them as "the heart of healthcare" and emphasized their critical role in saving lives daily.

Yet despite these obstacles, nurses continue showing up for their communities. Dr. Ajami praised their resilience in handling everything from triage and infection prevention to patient education and emotional support for families in crisis.

"Nurses are more than caregivers; they are leaders, advocates, and lifesavers," Dr. Ajami told attendees. His message centered on a simple truth: when nurses have what they need to succeed, entire communities benefit.
