Little Rock Golf Wins Back-to-Back Conference Championships

The Little Rock Trojans men's golf team just proved that championship success is no fluke, capturing their second consecutive Ohio Valley Conference title with a commanding performance that left their competition in the dust.

Playing at Purdue's courses in West Lafayette, Indiana, the Trojans entered match play as the top seed after a record-breaking 28-under performance in stroke play. They didn't let up from there, defeating Tennessee Tech 4-1 in the championship match to claim their third conference title overall.

The victory showcases how far Little Rock's program has climbed. The team now ranks 49th nationally, turning heads on college golf's biggest stage.

Head coach Austin Eoff credited his team's mental toughness for the win. "We got off to slow starts on holes 1-6, but did a great job not getting frustrated and staying patient," he said after the match.

Ed Featherstone set the tone at the top of the lineup with a tight 1UP victory. Elliott Simonsen followed with a 2&1 win, giving the Trojans early momentum in the finals.

The championship clincher came from redshirt junior Rhett South, who delivered under pressure with a 1UP victory on the 18th hole. Viggo Talasmaki added another win, with Tennessee Tech managing just one point from Haden Maxwell.

Before reaching the finals, Little Rock cruised past Bryant 4.5-0.5 in the semifinals. The team controlled every aspect of that match, with Talasmaki posting the most decisive result at 4&3.

The Ripple Effect

Little Rock's dominance sends a powerful message about building sustainable success in college athletics. By winning stroke play by an astounding 45 shots and then maintaining that excellence through the pressure of match play, the Trojans showed other mid-major programs what's possible with the right culture and commitment.

Coach Eoff knows repeating as champions isn't easy. "Back-to-back is not an easy thing to do with a target on your back," he said. "These guys were determined to make it happen."

The Trojans now turn their attention to NCAA Regionals in May, where they'll compete for a spot at the national championship in Carlsbad, California. With momentum on their side and confidence earned through back-to-back titles, Little Rock is ready to make even more noise on the national stage.
