Live Frog Survives 700km Journey in Lettuce Bag

Sometimes the best adventures happen by accident, especially when you're a small green frog with big dreams.

A New Zealand couple in Esperance, Western Australia got more than greens when their flatmate brought home groceries from Woolworths. Inside a sealed bag of lettuce sat a live frog, likely having traveled over 700 kilometers from Australia's eastern states.

Laura Jones and Billie Le Pine said their Australian flatmate casually announced the discovery with a simple "Bro, I've got a frog in my lettuce." The palm-sized amphibian had apparently munched on lettuce and breathed through the bag's freshness holes during his cross-country journey.

The couple named their unexpected guest Greg. Rather than panicking, they opened the bag outside and let him enjoy some fresh air with his leafy travel snacks.

Greg got a proper sendoff too. The flatmates released him into a nearby dam where he could swim, hop, and start his new life in Western Australia.

"I'm just glad Greg is back in his natural habitat," Le Pine told ABC Perth. Jones added that watching Greg swim around with his lettuce before hopping away made the whole strange experience feel complete.
