Lost Farmer Found After 10-Hour Forest Search in Karnataka

When only the cattle came home on the evening of June 11, Hemanna Madar's family knew something was terribly wrong. The 65-year-old farmer had entered the Hemmadga forest near Khanapur in Karnataka's Belagavi district that morning to graze his animals, but as night fell, he was nowhere to be found.

The family immediately contacted S. S. Nadaf, the local Range Forest Officer. Within hours, a full-scale rescue operation was underway.

Nadaf coordinated with Basavaraj Walad, Assistant Conservator of Forests, who ordered the immediate formation of rescue teams. By nightfall, five separate teams had mobilized to search the dense forest terrain.

The teams entered the forest from different access points, creating a coordinated search pattern. For nearly 10 hours through the night and into the early morning, the forest personnel combed through the wilderness, determined to bring Madar home safely.

As dawn broke on June 12, their efforts paid off. The teams located Madar and escorted him out of the forest, reuniting him with his relieved family.
