Lyon County Wins Two Basketball Titles in One Season

Lyon County High School just joined one of the most exclusive clubs in Kentucky basketball history.

The Lyons completed a rare double championship season Sunday night, fighting back from an 11-point deficit to defeat Caverna 49-46 in the All "A" State Championship. Lyon County became just the seventh school in Kentucky history to win both the All "A" title and the KHSAA State Championship in the same season.

"You don't understand, this stuff doesn't just happen all the time," head coach Ryan Perry told his team after the victory. "The stars have to align to get situations like this."

Sunday tested the Lyons' resilience twice. Earlier in the day, they overcame a seven-point deficit against Newport to win 60-53 in overtime. Just hours later, they found themselves down by double digits again against Caverna.

But this team refuses to quit. The Lyons clawed back to take the lead in the third quarter, and Carson Collins hit the go-ahead basket with one minute remaining to seal the win.

Senior guard Bray Kirk could barely contain his emotions after the game. "It means everything to us, and it gives me chills talking about it right now," he said. "We're the first two to win two championships, and that just means everything to us and our fans."

The victory was especially sweet after last year's heartbreak. Lyon County lost the All "A" Championship game to Danville Christian by three points. The team walked out of that locker room already hungry for redemption.

"We left the locker room that night, and those guys were already hungry for 365 days until this one," Perry said. "These guys have worked—you have no idea these guys have worked—to get to the position they're at."

The Ripple Effect

Lyon County's historic season represents something bigger than basketball statistics. In a small Kentucky community, these young athletes showed what persistence and teamwork can accomplish. They proved that setbacks don't define you—how you respond to them does.

Their journey from last year's three-point loss to this year's double championship run demonstrates the power of setting ambitious goals and refusing to give up when the scoreboard looks grim. Two comeback wins in one day speaks to character built over hundreds of practice hours and countless moments of choosing to push harder.

The celebration won't last long, though. The Lyons host Henderson County Monday night, already focused on their next challenge while savoring a season their community will remember forever.
