Two World Records Fall in Zurich Track Spectacular

The roar of 25,000 fans filled Zurich's Diamond League stadium as Brazil's Alison dos Santos blazed through the 400m hurdles in 45.80 seconds, shattering a world record that seemed untouchable just hours earlier.

The 26-year-old obliterated Karsten Warholm's 2021 mark of 45.94 seconds, carving off more than a tenth of a second and beating his own previous best by nearly half a second. Warholm himself finished second, watching from behind as his record vanished.

Just 75 minutes later, the crowd erupted again when Olympic champion Masai Russell broke the women's 100m hurdles record with a time of 12.09 seconds. The American has been knocking on the door of Tobi Amusan's 12.12-second mark for two years, finishing within a tenth of it five separate times this season.

Russell celebrated with a finger to her lips as the stadium exploded. Like Warholm, Amusan had a front-row seat to her own record being broken, finishing second to her rival.

The night almost witnessed a third world record when Switzerland's 22-year-old Audrey Werro chased the oldest outdoor world record in athletics. She finished the 800m in 1:53.70, just 0.42 seconds shy of Jarmila Kratochvilova's 43-year-old mark.

Werro hit the final 100 meters almost perfectly in sync with the pacing lights set for a world record. The European champion couldn't quite find the finishing kick she needed, but her performance marked the third-fastest time in history and shaved another tenth off her personal best.
