Lyte Raises $165M to Help Robots See and Move Safely

Robots are getting smarter, but they've struggled with a fundamental problem: truly understanding the physical world around them.

Lyte AI just raised $165 million to change that. The Sunnyvale company designs custom chips and sensors that help robots know exactly where they are and what's moving nearby, creating a foundation for safer, more capable machines.

Founded in 2021, Lyte took an ambitious approach. Instead of piecing together off-the-shelf parts like most robotics companies, they built everything from scratch, owning their technology "from the transistor up." Their LyteVision platform fuses multiple sensing technologies into one synchronized system, measuring position and motion directly rather than guessing through software.

The results speak for themselves. Lyte is already in production, shipping systems to leading robotics customers in inspection, logistics, and manufacturing. CES 2026 recognized LyteVision as "Best of Innovation in Robotics."

"Physical AI has a sensing problem before it has a model problem," explained Alexander Shpunt, Lyte's co-founder and CEO. "A robot cannot act safely on data that does not faithfully describe the world."

The $165 million Series C round, led by Maverick Silicon, values the company at $1.6 billion. Fidelity Management and several other investors joined, confident that accurate sensing will define the next generation of robotics.

The Ripple Effect

Better robot perception means safer workplaces and more efficient operations across industries. When machines can trust their sensors, they can work alongside humans more confidently in factories, navigate warehouses more efficiently, and inspect infrastructure more reliably. Lyte's customers span manufacturing, logistics, and inspection, suggesting the technology works across diverse real-world environments.

The funding will scale production of Lyte's custom silicon and expand deployments with more robotics companies. The company plans substantial hiring across engineering, manufacturing, and operations over the coming year.

Since emerging from stealth in January with $107 million in previous funding, Lyte has now raised $272 million total. Their rapid growth from startup to unicorn status in under four years signals strong industry demand for perception technology that actually works.

Chairman Avigdor Willenz captured the significance: "Owning the silicon separates companies that define a category from those that participate in one."
