Macklemore Donates $1M Tour Earnings to Palestinian Relief

When controversy threatened to silence him, rapper Macklemore decided to turn his platform into something bigger: a million-dollar commitment to humanitarian relief.

The Grammy-winning artist announced he's donating his entire $1 million salary from Ed Sheeran's Loop tour to six organizations supporting Palestinian people and Gaza relief. The decision came after he was removed from the tour following onstage comments about Palestine at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

During his performance, Macklemore spoke about his hopes for peace and dignity for all people. His words prompted venue owner Robert Kraft, the billionaire New England Patriots owner, to tell Ed Sheeran that the tour couldn't play at his stadium if Macklemore remained as an opener.

Rather than fade quietly, Macklemore is now challenging Kraft to match his donation. "Whatever we disagree about, perhaps we can agree on this: Palestinian lives are worth protecting," he wrote on Instagram.
