Maine Girls Win District 2 Softball Championship

A group of young athletes from Medomak, Maine proved that resilience wins championships after bouncing back from a tough loss to capture the District 2 Little League softball title.

The Medomak 8-10 team defeated Five Town 13-6 on June 29 in Friendship, Maine, securing their spot in the state championship tournament. What makes the victory even sweeter is that the girls had lost to Five Town just one day earlier in a heartbreaking 8-7 semifinal game.

The championship game showcased the team's depth and determination. Pitcher Leelai Merrifield dominated in the circle, striking out 12 batters to lead her team to victory. Eight different players contributed hits, showing the strength of the entire roster.

After winning their opening game against Five Town on June 27, Medomak faced elimination when they fell behind 6-1 in the semifinal rematch. The girls clawed back to take a 7-6 lead in the sixth inning, only to lose on a dramatic two-out rally in the final frame.
