Malaysia Targets AI Nation Status by 2030

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo reaffirmed the country's commitment to becoming an AI nation by 2030 at the FutureX Venture Fest in May 2026. Despite global economic headwinds, Malaysia is charging ahead with plans to transform itself into Southeast Asia's premier digital and AI destination.

The vision isn't just talk. Malaysia's National AI Action Plan 2026-2030 focuses on building homegrown talent, strengthening digital infrastructure, and helping industries across the board adopt AI technology. The investment boom tells the success story already unfolding. In 2025 alone, Malaysia attracted over RM42 billion in approved digital investments through the Malaysia Digital initiative. Equinix recently announced plans to invest more than RM897 million in a new Kuala Lumpur data center designed specifically for AI services and high-performance computing. That kind of commitment signals strong confidence in Malaysia's digital future.
