Marathon County Launches Free Platform for 400+ Volunteers

Finding the right place to volunteer just got a whole lot easier in Marathon County, Wisconsin.

The B.A. & Esther Greenheck Foundation launched Together Marathon County, a free online platform that matches volunteers with local nonprofits needing help. Think of it as a dating app, but for people who want to make their community better.

The numbers tell an exciting story. Since its soft launch in April, the platform has attracted more than 400 registered volunteers who've already logged over 135 hours of service. Volunteer opportunity listings have been viewed more than 4,000 times, showing just how hungry people are to help.

Thirty-six nonprofits have joined so far, covering everything from youth programs and food banks to environmental projects and senior services. Each organization gets a free profile and access to tools that make recruiting and managing volunteers much simpler.

"Nonprofits are being asked to do more with less," says Pam Jackson, CEO of the Greenheck Foundation. The platform gives these organizations professional infrastructure they might not otherwise afford, helping them find the right volunteers for specific needs.

The Ripple Effect

What makes this initiative special is how it strengthens the entire community ecosystem. When nonprofits can easily find skilled volunteers, they stretch their budgets further and serve more people. When volunteers can quickly discover opportunities that match their interests and schedules, they're more likely to stay engaged long-term.

The platform solves a problem many communities face: willing helpers who don't know where to start, and overwhelmed nonprofits who don't have time for complex recruitment. Two dedicated staff members support both sides, making sure connections actually happen.
