Mars Hits 100% Renewable Energy Across All U.S. Sites

Mars just flipped the switch on something remarkable: every single one of its U.S. operations now runs on 100% renewable electricity, from candy factories to pet hospitals.

The milestone covers all Mars facilities across America, including production plants churning out your favorite snacks, corporate offices, and even the company's veterinary hospitals and diagnostic labs. It's the kind of transformation that seemed impossible just a few years ago.

The achievement came through Mars' Renewable Acceleration program, launched in 2025 to fast-track the shift from fossil fuels to clean energy. One major deal with Enel North America will support three new solar projects in Texas, generating enough electricity annually to power roughly 250,000 homes.

But Mars didn't just meet its goals. The company crushed its 2025 emissions target, cutting direct operational emissions by 42.6% since 2015 while growing its business by 75%. That's the business equivalent of running a marathon while losing weight.

The company also logged its biggest single-year emissions cut across its entire supply chain in 2025, reducing carbon output by 6.4%. Mars CEO Poul Weihrauch celebrated the moment, calling clean energy access essential to building a resilient business.

The Ripple Effect

Mars isn't keeping the clean energy to itself. The company's renewable program is designed to help suppliers make the switch too, potentially cutting 3 million tonnes of emissions by 2030. That's roughly equal to taking 650,000 cars off the road for a year.

The company also launched a $250 million sustainability fund to invest in breakthrough solutions for industry-wide environmental challenges. Meanwhile, Mars expanded climate-smart agriculture projects to 77 initiatives across 26 countries, working directly with farmers to build resilience against extreme weather.

Mars set a bold target in 2023: net zero emissions by 2050, with emissions cut in half by 2030. The renewable energy milestone shows they're not just making promises. They're rewiring how a global corporation powers itself, proving that corporate giants can move faster on climate action than many believed possible.

Every candy bar and pet food purchase now comes with a smaller carbon footprint, and that's something worth celebrating.
