Maryland to Get Second US Sphere Venue Near DC
An immersive entertainment venue featuring a massive LED exterior and wrap-around screens is coming to Maryland's National Harbor, just 15 minutes from Washington, DC. The mini-Sphere will bring Las Vegas-style tech spectacles to the East Coast with room for 6,000 people.
Maryland is getting its own version of Las Vegas's famous glowing orb, bringing cutting-edge entertainment to the East Coast.
Sphere Entertainment announced plans to build a second US venue in National Harbor, Prince George's County, located along the Potomac River about 15 minutes south of Washington, DC. The area already buzzes with convention centers, hotels, restaurants, and shops.
This won't be a full-size clone of the Vegas original. The Maryland Sphere will seat around 6,000 people instead of 17,000, making it one of the company's first mini-Sphere venues announced last year.
But smaller doesn't mean subtle. The venue will still feature a massive exterior LED screen displaying artistic content and advertisements that made the Las Vegas Sphere an instant landmark. Anyone visiting National Harbor won't be able to miss it.
Inside, audiences will experience a 16,000 by 16,000 pixel wrap-around screen that covers the entire interior. The mini-Sphere will also include immersive surround sound, haptic seating that moves with the action, and 4D environmental effects like wind, fog, scents, and even physical objects.

The current Las Vegas show, an AI-enhanced version of The Wizard of Oz, literally drops apples from the ceiling during key scenes. Audiences feel the wind and smell the flowers as Dorothy travels through Oz.
The Ripple Effect
This expansion signals growing confidence in immersive entertainment beyond casino destinations. Bringing the technology to the DC area opens access to millions of East Coast residents who might never visit Las Vegas.
The National Harbor location puts the venue within driving distance of major population centers including Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Richmond. Families planning weekend trips and tourists visiting the nation's capital will have a brand-new entertainment option that doesn't exist anywhere else on this side of the country.
The company is also building a full-size Sphere in Abu Dhabi, showing global appetite for this type of experience. The Maryland venue could pave the way for more mini-Spheres in other cities if it succeeds.
More Americans will soon experience next-generation entertainment without boarding a plane to Nevada.
