Mets End 12-Game Skid With Gutsy Walk-Off Win

The New York Mets proved that even the toughest losing streaks eventually end.

On a night when nothing came easy, the team snapped a brutal 12-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins. After two weeks of losses piling up, the Mets showed they still had fight left in them.

The game wasn't pretty. Third baseman Mark Vientos made a costly baserunning mistake in the sixth inning, getting thrown out at home after ignoring his coach's stop sign. Most teams in a 12-game tailspin would have crumbled after that kind of error.

But manager Carlos Mendoza kept his team focused on the positive. "You can't come to the ballpark expecting the worst when you are going through a very rough stretch," he said before the game. "Your mindset has to expect something good to happen."

Something good did happen, and Vientos made sure of it. In the eighth inning with the score tied at 2, he hit a blooper to right field that scored the go-ahead run. His earlier mistake was instantly forgiven.

Relief pitcher Luke Weaver sealed the deal, throwing 1.1 scoreless innings and striking out Byron Buxton to end the game. Looking up at the sky after the final out, Weaver let out what he called "a sigh of relief."

The Bright Side

Even in defeat after defeat, the Mets kept showing up ready to win. Pitcher Clay Holmes threw seven strong innings, giving his team a chance despite the weight of 12 straight losses on everyone's shoulders.

The clubhouse after the game told the whole story. "Just to feel the win again, seeing everybody smiling," Holmes said. "It's a great feeling."

Vientos summed up the team's renewed energy perfectly: "We are happy to get this win. We can just go play."

The victory reminds us that no slump lasts forever when you keep believing.
