Mexican Town Makes 7-Ton World Record Guacamole

Imagine 800 people working together to mash avocados for two and a half hours straight. That's exactly what happened in Tancítaro, Mexico, where students, teachers, and community members just broke the world record for the largest serving of guacamole ever made.

The final creation weighed in at 7.2 tons, with a qualifying weight of 6.8 tons. Volunteers worked side by side, mixing fresh avocados with onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and lime juice in hundreds of containers while spectators watched the green mountain grow on big screens throughout the venue.

Tancítaro isn't just any town. Known as the "avocado capital," this city in Michoacán state exports about 30% of all avocados leaving the region, which itself is the world's largest avocado exporter.

The record-breaking event happened during the town's 13th annual Avocado Fair, where producers, buyers, and avocado lovers gather to celebrate the fruit that powers their local economy. Students from the College of Scientific and Technological Studies led the charge, turning what could have been just another fair into a moment of collective pride.

"Our students demonstrated teamwork, dedication and pride in their hometown," said Principal Luis Enrique Toscano Servín. The achievement showed what happens when a community comes together around something they all care about.

The Ripple Effect

The previous record belonged to Peribán, another Michoacán town, which made nearly five tons of guacamole in 2022. This friendly competition between neighboring communities does more than just create massive amounts of dip. It puts a spotlight on the hardworking farmers and families who make Michoacán the avocado powerhouse it is today.

The event drew producers and buyers from across the region, strengthening business connections while celebrating local culture. For the students involved, it became a hands-on lesson in what their community can accomplish when everyone pitches in.

After the official weighing, organizers didn't let a single scoop go to waste. The record-breaking guacamole was served on tostadas and shared with everyone who attended, turning a world record attempt into a giant community feast.

Tancítaro now holds the crown for the world's largest guacamole, proving that the best achievements are the ones you can share with your neighbors.
