Michigan College Athletes Shatter Records Across 3 Sports

Mid Michigan College athletes just proved that small schools can make massive waves.

The Harrison-based community college celebrated a record-breaking winter season that saw both basketball teams qualify for nationals and the women's bowling team achieve the highest finish in program history. For the men's basketball team, it marked their first-ever trip to the national championship.

The women's basketball Lakers dominated their conference with a perfect record, finishing 27-4 overall. They captured their fourth straight trip to nationals after crushing St. Clair County Community College 100-72 in the district tournament final. Head Coach Tanner Smith earned District Coach of the Year honors for leading the program to its sixth national appearance.

The men's team made history of their own, earning their inaugural national berth with a 25-6 record and 13-1 conference mark. Their 79-73 district championship win sent Head Coach Kaleb House's squad to the big stage for the first time ever.

But basketball wasn't the only sport making headlines. The women's bowling team clinched fourth place nationally, the highest ranking the program has ever achieved. Paige Vallad swept both the Region XII All-Events and Singles championships, while teammate Mya Jarvis finished fifth nationally in All-Events.

Then came the biggest individual achievement of all. Evan Daly became Mid Michigan College's first-ever All-American by winning the All-Events title at nationals, beating 137 competitors from across the country. He also grabbed silver in singles competition and placed 10th in doubles with partner Ty Olsen.

The Ripple Effect

This breakthrough season means more than trophies for the small Michigan college. Student athletes from community colleges often compete in the shadow of major universities, but this winter proved that dedication and teamwork can level any playing field. Each championship adds momentum to Mid Michigan's nine athletic programs, inspiring the next generation of Lakers to dream bigger.

Head Coach Jason Robinson, named Region XII Coach of the Year for bowling, captured the spirit perfectly: "This group set a new standard for our program." That new standard now includes multiple conference titles, history-making national appearances, and the school's first All-American.

The college also celebrated another milestone when softball Head Coach Greg Welch notched his 100th career win, adding to a winter season that redefined what's possible for Mid Michigan athletics.
