Minnesota Opens $41M for EV Charging Network Expansion

Electric vehicle drivers in Minnesota are about to gain a lot more freedom on the road.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that $41.2 million in federal funding is now available to expand the state's electric vehicle charging network. This third round of investment through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program is the largest yet, focused on building fast-charging stations throughout Minnesota.

The funding tackles one of the biggest concerns holding people back from switching to electric vehicles: wondering if they'll find a charger when they need one. Commissioner Nancy Daubenberger said the expansion will provide more confidence and flexibility for anyone driving an EV or considering making the switch.

The money comes from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, covering 80% of project costs. The remaining 20% must be provided by the businesses or organizations that receive grants and will own and operate the charging stations.
