Mississippi State Athletes Hit Perfect Academic Scores

Student athletes at Mississippi State University are proving you can win championships in the classroom too.

The NCAA just released its latest Academic Progress Rate data, and Mississippi State knocked it out of the park. Six Bulldog sports programs earned perfect multi-year scores of 1,000, the highest possible rating for academic achievement and student retention.

Men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis, soccer, and volleyball all achieved the perfect score. But the success didn't stop there. Every single one of Mississippi State's 13 athletic programs exceeded the NCAA's benchmark of 930, with the entire department averaging an impressive 987.7.

The football team scored 984, marking their eighth straight year above 975 and ranking among the top five scores in program history. Baseball came in at 987, while softball hit 995 for its 11th consecutive year at 990 or higher.

These aren't just numbers on a page. The Academic Progress Rate tracks whether student athletes are staying eligible, making progress toward their degrees, and remaining enrolled or graduating. Each athlete can earn up to two points per term, one for academic progress and one for staying in school.

The Ripple Effect

Mississippi State's consistency stands out across the entire Southeastern Conference. Women's tennis has now maintained a perfect 1,000 score for nine straight years, one of the longest academic streaks in the department. Men's golf is on year five of perfect scores.

The success shows what happens when universities invest in supporting student athletes beyond their sport. These students are managing grueling practice schedules, travel for competitions, and the pressure to perform while still excelling in challenging degree programs.

Cross country maintained its third straight year above 990. Women's golf earned back to back perfect scores. Soccer notched its third consecutive 1,000. These aren't flukes or one-time achievements, they're sustained excellence built on strong support systems and dedicated students.

The results prove that the phrase "student athlete" isn't just a title but a reality at Mississippi State, where young people are building futures that extend far beyond their playing days.
