Missouri Rescue Team Saves Driver From Flooded Car Roof

A driver stranded on top of his completely submerged car was pulled to safety by water rescue teams early Monday morning in Cole County, Missouri, proving that help can arrive even in the most dangerous situations.

The rescue unfolded at 5 a.m. on June 8 on Scrivner Road at South Moreau Creek. Floodwaters had swept the vehicle entirely off the road, leaving it completely underwater with only the roof visible.

The driver managed to climb on top of his sinking vehicle as waters rose around him. When first responders from the Russellville-Lohman Fire Protection District arrived, they found him standing on the roof, surrounded by rushing floodwaters.

The Jefferson City Fire Department's specialized water rescue team quickly launched a rescue boat with three trained Water Rescue Technicians. They navigated the dangerous floodwaters and safely brought the driver back to shore.

Cole County EMS checked the man at the scene. Multiple agencies worked together on the rescue, including the Cole County Sheriff's Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol.
