MLB Pitcher Reveals Gender on Camera After Striking Out Side

When Anthony Nunez struck out the side to protect a one-run lead for the Baltimore Orioles on Mother's Day, he had one more delivery to make.

The 24-year-old rookie reliever walked toward the dugout, looked straight into the broadcast camera, and mouthed two words: "It's a boy." His brother Danny and sister-in-law Micaela, watching at home with family, learned they were expecting a son at the same moment thousands of baseball fans did.

The creative reveal almost didn't happen. Nunez said his brother suggested the idea at the last minute when the family decided to gather for the game, but the young pitcher was so focused on his job that he nearly forgot.

"I honestly forgot about it until I got the third out and I saw the camera pointing at me," Nunez said. "I was more locked in on the at-bats."

The moment came after Nunez worked out of a challenging situation in the eighth inning, issuing two walks before striking out dangerous hitter Brent Rooker and getting the final out on a flyball. Only then did the surprise announcement flash across his mind.

Broadcasters Kevin Brown and Ben McDonald caught the message and shared it with viewers, with McDonald joking about Nunez's impressive multitasking skills. "There's no way I would have thought to do that after getting out of that situation," McDonald said.
