Mom Turns 'Stupid' Label Into IIT Success Story

A mother in India threw out her parenting playbook when her son's nursery school called him "stupid" and threatened to kick him out for not paying attention in class. What she did instead changed everything.

The IIT Bombay graduate recently shared his story on Instagram, recalling how teachers told his mother he wouldn't even look at the blackboard. Most parents might have doubled down on discipline or hired tutors, but his mother chose a completely different path.

She started with strictness. It backfired spectacularly. When she threatened to hit him if he didn't study, her young son handed her a knife and said hitting wouldn't change anything. That moment became her wake-up call.

Instead of pushing harder, she pulled him closer. She replaced homework battles with evening walks, moon gazing, and impromptu dance parties in their living room. She never made these activities feel like chores or routines.

The way she talked to him changed too. She started asking open-ended questions, maintaining eye contact, and actually letting him finish his sentences without interrupting. She never pulled rank as the adult or made him feel small.

"She never made me feel that I was small, that she was older, or that she considered herself superior to me," he recalled in the video. Their relationship shifted from parent-child to something closer to friendship.

His screen time became "moon time." They'd walk together in the evenings and look up at the sky. His mother would bring music and start dancing, no explanation needed. These weren't educational activities with hidden agendas. They were just time together.

The changes showed up in unexpected ways. At age eight, a meditation center in Pune accepted him despite their policy of only admitting children 13 and older. The instructors noticed how calm he was.
