Montana State Wins First Title in 41 Years, Town Erupts

The Montana State Bobcats returned home as champions for the first time since 1984, and their town made sure they felt every ounce of love. Thousands of fans dressed in blue and gold flooded downtown Bozeman for a victory parade that turned into an all-day celebration of perseverance and community pride.

The Bobcats clinched the FCS championship in dramatic fashion with a blocked field goal near the end of regulation, a blocked extra point in overtime, and a game-winning fourth-down touchdown pass. Players were greeted by cheering crowds at the airport when they landed back in Montana with their new hardware.

"Everyone deserved it; fans and players," said David Maguire, an MSU graduate from Great Falls. "I don't know how to describe it. Didn't think it was possible."

The celebration kicked off with a parade through downtown Bozeman on Saturday, January 17. The football team rode down South 11th Avenue and Main Street while fans showered them with cheers and gratitude for ending the 41-year championship drought.

At Bobcat Stadium, the energy reached a fever pitch when officials unveiled the 2025 Big Sky Conference and FCS championship banners. Head coach Brent Vigen, quarterback Justin Lamson, wide receiver Taco Dowler, and defensive end Kenneth Eiden IV each addressed the roaring crowd.

Players watched replays of the game's most critical moments on the stadium screen. The blocked kicks and final touchdown drew fresh cheers each time, as if fans were reliving the miracle all over again.

The victory celebration extended into the evening with the Cat-Griz basketball games. Both Montana State basketball teams defeated their rivals from the University of Montana, completing a banner day for the university.
