Montgomery 8-Year-Olds Win National Baseball Championship

A group of eight-year-olds from Montgomery, Alabama just proved that big dreams come in small packages.

The Montgomery 8U All-Stars won the Diamond Youth Baseball Division I AA 8U Coach Pitch World Series Championship in Laurel, Mississippi. They competed against teams from 11 states, including Texas, Florida, Georgia, and Virginia, to claim the national title.

This wasn't just a win for the team. It's a milestone moment for Montgomery's growing youth sports scene.

Earlier this summer, the city hosted the Diamond Youth Baseball Regional World Series at Lagoon Park, welcoming 32 teams from five states. In July 2027, Montgomery will host both the 6U and 8U World Series championships, the same tournament where these young athletes just earned their crown.

"These young athletes represented Montgomery on a major stage and came home as world champions," said Ricky Phaturos, Alabama State Director for Diamond Youth Baseball. He noted that hosting next year's championship makes this victory even more meaningful for the community.

The Ripple Effect

This championship win does more than fill a trophy case. It shows what happens when a community invests in youth sports and creates opportunities for young athletes to compete at the highest level.

Montgomery's transformation into a regional hub for youth baseball means more families will visit the city, more kids will have chances to play competitively, and more young athletes will see what's possible when they work hard as a team. These eight-year-olds just became role models for the next generation of players who will compete on their home field in 2027.

The city plans to celebrate its hometown champions on Saturday, August 29, during the Montgomery Biscuits game at DABOS Park. The special recognition will happen before the 6:05 p.m. first pitch against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

These young champions proved that Montgomery isn't just hosting the future of youth baseball, it's winning it too.
