Morocco's Unemployment Drops to 13% in 2025

Morocco's unemployment rate dropped to 13% in 2025, down from 13.3% last year, according to the High Commission for Planning. The decline brought 17,000 fewer people into unemployment, reducing the total to 1.621 million jobseekers.

The improvement touched both urban and rural communities. Cities saw unemployment fall from 16.9% to 16.4%, while rural areas dropped from 6.8% to 6.6%.

Education level made a big difference in who found work. People with technical and mid-level management diplomas saw the sharpest improvement, with their unemployment rate falling 2.3 points to 24%. Those with professional qualifications followed close behind, dropping 1.9 points to 22%.

Older workers experienced the strongest gains overall. Unemployment among people 45 and over fell from 4% to 3.6%, showing that experience still matters in Morocco's job market.

The numbers weren't universally positive, though. Men saw their unemployment rate drop nearly a full point to 10.8%, but women's unemployment climbed 1.1 points to reach 20.5%. Young people aged 15 to 24 continue facing the toughest job market, with unemployment rising slightly to 37.2%.

The Bright Side

Despite mixed results across demographics, the overall trend points toward economic momentum. Nearly half of Morocco's unemployed workers have previous job experience, meaning they bring valuable skills to potential employers.

The fact that unemployment fell across both cities and rural areas shows economic growth isn't concentrated in just one region. When progress spreads geographically, more families and communities benefit from new opportunities.

Morocco's steady improvement also reflects broader efforts to strengthen its economy. Each percentage point drop represents thousands of people earning wages, supporting families, and contributing to their communities.

The road ahead still holds challenges, particularly for young people and women entering the workforce, but the overall direction shows Morocco moving forward together.
